5 trading blogs you should be reading now

Mainstream press has finally recognized the fine content available on trading blogs. Unfortunately, all of the articles tend to focus on the same few blogs: Barry Ritholtz’s The Big Picture, Paul Kedrosky’s Infectious Greed, Bill Cara, Bloggingstocks.com, The Kirk Report, and Trader Mike.  All of these blogs deserve attention.  In fact I read Ritholtz, Cara, Kirk and Trader Mike every day.

Still, a number of amazingly high quality trading blogs have completely slipped under the mainstream radar.  Here are five I recommend:

  1. Quantifiable Edges – Rob Hanna doesn’t just posit theories about market behavior — he tests them, and posts the results.  For example, Hanna’s latest experiment measures whether low volume drops lead to positive, short-term market opportunities.  Hanna’s work is mainly limited to the S&P 500, but it is so compelling that traders of all stripes should check it out.
  2. Investment Postcards from Cape Town – Prieur du Plessis is the man.  Besides writing for Minyanville.com, he publishes this phenomenal blog focusing on global and macro trends.  His weekly review is even better than Bill Cara’s, and that is a high bar indeed.
  3. Bronte Capital Blog – John Hempton’s blog has only been around a few months, but it has already demonstrated its value.  Hempton deftly wades through the credit crisis to uncover interesting investment opportunities.
  4. Technically Speaking – By far my favorite technical analysis blog.  Day in and day out, Ron Sen identifies the technical trends to watch.  Oh yeah, and he is a doctor in his spare time!
  5. World Beta – Mebane Faber focuses on capital allocation strategies, and has a linkfest that may even top Ritholtz’s.

This list is by no means exhaustive.  For other blogs you should add to your RSS reader, please see my reviews of Stockbee, The Slope of Hope, and Kirk’s Membership Site.
